About 'SCANcomm'

What is SCANcomm?

SCAN COMMUNICATIONS CO. was formed in 1983 as East Coast News Service, a free-lance writing and editing business owned by Chuck Gysi, a longtime newspaper editor. He expanded his services through the years to include free-lance writing for magazines and other publications, free-lance editing for directories and consulting for major radio manufacturers. Today, SCANcomm offers a complete suite of communications services.

Who is Chuck Gysi?

CHUCK GYSI is the owner of SCAN Communications Co., a business refined over the past four decades to provide services for both commercial and non-profit entities. Chuck Gysi has sat on both sides of the fence -- as a newspaper editor, as editor of The Macomb Journal in Illinois and also as managing editor of the Austin Daily Herald in Minnesota, and as a communications director at the Rochester Area Foundation in Minnesota and as vice president of marketing and communications for Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois. He has worked in all areas of newspaper newsrooms and ran a New York-based magazine, Popular Communications, from his Midwest base in the 1990s. He has served as a consultant to magazine publishers and has consulted with radio manufacturers because of his extensive background as a radio hobbyist. He is the owner, editor and publisher of National Communications Magazine and has worked with the USA TODAY Network Design Studio, formerly the Center for News and Design in Austin, Texas.

Chuck Gysi's bylines have appeared in publications ranging from Grit to Glamour -- and almost every hobby radio publication, including Monitoring Times, 73, CQ, QST and National Communications.  Chuck Gysi also served a number of years as the trunking editor for the annual series of Police Call directories and was the editor of a series of five scanner radio directories published for Scanner Master Books. If you need someone who knows the communications industry and you need someone with the expertise to get the job done, contact Chuck Gysi right away for a fair and competitive estimate.
